Let’s be honest: convection ovens are a drag. Most fabs are still using these massive forced-air systems that try to heat up an entire room’s worth of air just to get a tiny wafer dry. It’s slow. It’s wasteful. And frankly, it feels like trying to dry a single sock by heating up your entire house. Infrared (IR) curing flips the script. Instead of heating the air, it sends electromagnetic radiation straight into the substrate. Here is how it actually works. We match the lamp’s wavelength to whatever photoresist or adhesive you’re using. By using short-wave or medium-wave emitters, the heat punches right through the surface layer. You don’t have to wait for a giant chamber to warm up. You hit your target temperature in seconds. Plus, because the heat is so direct, you can stop relying on those nasty lead-based catalysts or chemical solvents just to speed things up. The catch (because there’s always one) Now, it’s not all magic. High-intensity IR lamps pack a serious punch, and that heat density can be a bit much for some setups. If your fab’s chilled water loop isn’t built for the peak load of an IR array, you’re going to have problems. You might see your lamp sockets or conveyor belts overheating. The trick is finding that sweet spot between your lamp wattage and how fast you can pull the heat away. If you don’t balance that, you’ll deal with thermal drift, and that’s a headache nobody wants.
