
Why Your Ceiling Heaters Shouldn’t Blind Your Guests
Ever stepped into a bathroom and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? That’s the problem with standard short-wave infrared lamps. They blast out a wide spectrum of light that’s just way too bright for a ceiling fixture. When you’re looking straight up, that glare is annoying. But for babies or people with sensitive eyes, those cheap lamps can actually be harsh on the retinas because of the blue light and UV. Not a great way to start a morning.
Fixing the Glare
We handle this by tweaking how the light behaves. Instead of using a basic quartz tube, we use doped quartz or special coatings. Think of it like a filter. It blocks out that harsh, blinding light but lets the actual heat—the long-wave infrared part—flow right through. You still get that cozy, warm feeling on your skin, but the light stays soft. It’s not just about “comfort.” It’s about making sure you aren’t squinting or straining your eyes every time you flip the switch.
The Balancing Act
Here’s the tricky part: recessed housings don’t have much room to breathe. If you cram too many watts into a tiny ceiling cavity, you’re going to trip the thermal cutoff or, worse, warp the housing. To stop that from happening, we use high-grade quartz that can take the heat without burning out. But there is a trade-off. Because we’ve filtered out the glare to protect your eyes, these won’t light up a room like a giant halogen bulb. If your client wants the heater to be the main light source, you’re better off pairing it with some dedicated LEDs.
A Few Tips for Installation
When you’re wiring these in, make sure the circuit can handle the initial surge of power when they kick on. Also, double-check your ceiling void. You need enough clearance for the wiring and the heat shield. If it’s a tight squeeze without a proper heat sink, the lamp is going to die a lot sooner than it should. Give it some room to breathe.
