
Why we stopped making “disposable” outdoor heaters
Outdoor heaters have a rough life. They live in the rain, the wind, and the dust. To survive that, you need an IP65 rating—which is basically a fancy way of saying the unit is sealed tight to keep the gunk out. But here’s the catch: once you seal something that tight, it usually becomes a nightmare to fix. Most IP65 heaters are basically disposable. If one heating element burns out, you’re often stuck tearing the entire chassis apart just to get to it. It takes hours. And the worst part? Once you open that seal, it’s almost impossible to get it perfectly watertight again. We got tired of that. So we changed the design. Instead of soldering everything together in one big, permanent lump, we moved to a modular setup. Think of it like a plug-and-play system. Now, if a tube gives up the ghost after five years, you don’t have to rewire the whole machine. You just slide out the dead heating block and drop in a new one. You aren’t exposing the delicate guts of the electronics to the rain for half a day. You swap the part, tighten a few bolts, and the seal stays exactly as it should be. It turns a miserable four-hour ordeal into a ten-minute job. Now, to be fair, there’s a trade-off. Using connectors instead of a direct solder means you have more contact points. That means you have to make sure the terminals are torqued down tight. If they’re loose, you’ll get a voltage drop or, worse, a spark. It’s a simple fix, but it’s something you can’t ignore. We built this for the facility manager who is already stretched too thin. You don’t have time for a “surgical” teardown on a Tuesday morning. By treating the heating element as a part you just replace—like a lightbulb—the long-term cost drops. You keep the expensive housing and power supply for a decade, and you only pay for the tubes when they actually wear out. It just makes sense.
